Well, I finally upgraded my phone. I know what you're thinking -- welcome to the 2000's. :)
I picked up a HTC Hero on Sprint this past week with all its Android coolness. Since then I have been working at a feverish pace to finish off selling my soul to Google. Everything is sync'd up to Google. Since I keep all my contacts in my OSX address book, now I sync that to the Googles. I also configured Gmail to be the mail exchanger for my domain name. The second part -- yeah, should have done that years ago.
Guess I'll need a twitter account now.

X-Ray vison

good
Yesterday I had my third visit to the Orthopedic since I returned to VA after my ice hockey "incident" in Long Island.
I managed to get a couple of the X-rays from the doctor. Excuse the image quality, this is a scan of a printout from a laser printer that seems it could use a new toner cartridge. Regardless, it's still pretty clear.

There is a single screw in the Tibia and a plate and 6 screws in the Fibula. The doctor said that for the most part my bones are healed and I really wouldn't be able to notice any fractures or remnants in these images. So, all in all, it looks like my recovery is progressing along rather nicely.

I fail at IKEA
Sep. 14th, 2009 | 09:31 pm
So this evening I went to assemble a new bookcase I picked up at IKEA this weekend. Upon opening the box I determined that I have picked up the wrong color/veneer. This makes the second time in as many weeks that I've picked up the wrong color item in the warehouse at the big blue and yellow store. Complicating the matters -- the closest IKEA is 2 hours away. *grumble*

Orthopedic Update
Aug. 24th, 2009 | 04:33 pm
mood:
anxious
Well, I've been home for about a week now. Came home last Tuesday via Amtrak out of NYC. Had an appointment on Thursday with my PCP who scheduled me to go see a local orthopedic today.
First and foremost, they removed the surgical staples from both my incisions today. I had 6 on my inside (Tibia) incision and 17 on my outside (Fibula) incision. Aside from a couple of them being pretty sharply painful when they were being removed... I was very happy to see them go. For the last 5 or so days they've been steadily getting more and more annoying. Both itchy and painful. I also had new X-ray images taken today since I didn't have any with me from the (cheap and expensive) orthopedic in NY. The doc said after looking over the images that things looked really good. He pretty much echoed what my surgeon had said up in NY at the follow-up appointment I had last Monday. He said the the bones were mated together very nicely by way of the surgery. Based on what he saw, he was hopeful that my recovery time would be a little shorter than normal for typical Tib-Fib fractures. Considering the fact that I was in very good shape aside from the injury that all meant good things for the recovery time.
Still I can't put weight on this foot for at least another 4-5 weeks. My leg muscles should be good and gone by then -- so that's going to make for some "enjoyable" recovery time at the Therapist and the gym. Speaking of that. I had called the gym last week to put my membership on suspension during this recovery time. Seeing as how I'm about ready to lose my mind I may call them back up in a week or two and see about reactivating my membership and going up to see a trainer and start working on an upper body/core regimen to keep myself in some better shape instead of being completely sedentary the entire recovery time. That should help me feel better about looking the part to go to Chicago in November. We shall see.
All-in-all, aside from there being a whole month more of basically not doing much of anything -- I suppose this prognosis is just about as good as it could be. Hopefully I'll be able to get back on the bike later this fall before it gets to be too cold to ride around here. And if all goes well, I should be able to go skating again sometime around December or January. *fingers crossed*

Heading home today

Train leaves about 2 this afternoon.
I really want to thank those that came by and visited me while I have been recovering. And I really want to say thanks to
reddywhp and
rocketpup for letting me recover on the living room sofa for about a week. Oh and the whole bringing me food, drink, necessities, and carting me around town. Thank you so much! Love you guys.

I are broken

sore
Last weekend
edarc and myself came up to NY to visit with
reddywhp and
rocketpup. Drove up on Thursday night and had planned to stay until sometime on Sunday afternoon. We could then drive back to VA and avoid most of the Washington traffic. We had a good time while we where here. Friday we went played around the house abit and went ice skating at night joined by
nitropup. Afterwards we went over to a sports bar and grabbed some Guinness! Well, at least I got Guinness. :)
Saturday
nipper_dawg joined reddywhp, rocketpup, edarc and myself and we headed over to Cherry Grove on Fire Island. We laid out on the beach and enjoyed the sun and enjoyed the scenery and the adult beverages. Saturday evening we were pretty beat upon returning to the house -- so we pretty much crashed.
Sunday morning we slept in but was up in enough time to head over to The Rinx for a Stick and Puck. Unfortunately, this is were the weekend took a bit of a downward spiral. We got all geared up and headed out onto the ice. Edarc hadn't ever been to a stick and puck before so I, still being pretty green myself, headed off with him to try to teach him some passing drills. After about 5 minutes of this he passed me a puck that went off to my right side. I skated out and turned to go fetch it and apparently my skate got caught on the ice in some manner or I got tripped up on it and while my left foot was turned outward my weight came down on my left leg. New iMac - New Second Life
May. 5th, 2009 | 08:10 am

chipper
I mentioned a couple posts back that I had purchased a new iMac. I have been really happy with the machine thus far. Really fast machine, excellent graphics and it runs Virtual Machines without the slightest bit of lag. Overall, I'm very impressed with Apple's new offering. Really looking forward to Snow Leopard where I can take advantage of some of the GPU power for more than just graphics. That being said, I really didn't have anything on my computer to test out the new NVIDIA graphics card.
babysprout convinced me to try out Second Life, if for nothing else, to see the new computer and graphics card in action. After a fair amount of trying to convince me to join, I gave in.
